The Chows heads is large in comparison to the rest of his body, has a characteristic scowl, small, thick, slightly rounded ears which are carried erect and small, dark almond shaped eyes.

Chows may be red, white, cream, blue, black or fawn in colour with an abundant, stand-off coat in the rough variety and a plush, thick, velour coat in the smooth variety.

Chows are independent and somewhat aloof yet very devoted. It is a sensible dog who will not fawn over everyone rather saving its affection, playfulness and idiosyncrasies  for its family. It is compatible with other pets if it has grown up with them.
